According to an ICM survey of 558 UK office workers, a staggering half say they don’t have time to book a dentist and doctor appointments, and 46% of people don’t have time to buy gifts for the family. Of those who do 25% admit that they feel guilty or worried about the boss catching them doing things on line.
New research from law firm Browne Jacobson reveals that 82% of the 220 UK company directors they interviewed oppose the proposed extension of paid maternity leave, with 41% believing it is yet another burden that business cannot afford, Furthermore 75% of those interviewed believe that the extension will discourage employers from hiring women of child-bearing age.
Basic earnings, as measured by the Daily Telegraph Croner Reward Index in the year to end July, rose at an annual rate of 4.7% an increase of 0.1%. Growth in total earnings slipped from 4.6% to 4.3% during the same period.
450,000 Romanians and 170,000 Bulgarians are likely to come to Britain in the first two years after their countries accession to the EU. They will join the 600,000 Polish people who have already settled here.
